The Big Picture
As part of the Open Crypto Data Initiative, we launched a free web3 and crypto data streaming service — Project L3 ATOM in 2021. The vision of the project is to democratise crypto data and provide it at almost zero cost. Project L3 ATOM aims to be the Bloomberg Terminal (data streaming service) for crypto and web3, enabling institutional-grade data storing, normalising and streaming service at scale.
Who can Use This?
While you may initially think our focus is purely on finance, L3 Atom aims to have a place on every crypto enthusiast's hard drive. We don't just want users to plug our data into their trading bots to increase their APY's by a few basis points, we want to create an ecosystem that fosters democracy, freedom, and decentralisation. While we have an obvious tendency towards providing data that quants and traders can use in how they develop strategies and attempt to read the market, L3 Atom truly is for everyone, and we are pursuing our dream of capturing the essence of Web3 through data. Even if you've never bought a token in your life, we're hoping that you can appreciate the value of keeping data like this transparent, accessible, and, of course, free.
The Architecture of the MVP
Our first iteration of the MVP had a focus on fundamentals and constructing a solid frame from which we could easily scale and expand.
Our second iteration saw the solution grow into something more scalable and able to handle the terrabytes of data we were planning on throwing at it. We migrated services onto AWS to facillitate a better development environment as we brought more people on board, and had a focus on modularisation to ensure that future developers and teams could easily mantain and modify our codebase.
Coming Soon
We have big plans for the future of L3 Atom. This, of course, includes bringing in even more data sources and restructuring our schemas to handle more data points as we scale, but we also aim to improve the quality of life of the end-user by removing the hurdles that get in the way between you and high-quality data. To give a few examples:
For each normalised feed, you will also receive an Orderbook snapshot as the first message upon subscription
We will create other endpoints and forms of data delivery, including REST APIs, GraphQL, e.t.c.
We will implement historical storage, which will let you backtest your trading strategies on granular data stored for years
We will publish a dashboard that displays metadata regarding the project; benchmarks, indicators related to user counts, number of requests, e.t.c.
